Das sdkfz 7 wurd als Artilleriezugmaschine für Geschütze der grössen 8,8cm bis 15cm entwickelt. Im verlauf Ihrer Dienstzeit entwickelte sie sich ebendfall zu einem wichtigem Zugfahrzeug für die Pioniertruppe, Brückenbaukololonen und Instandsetungstruppen
